GymPlayer Privacy Policy
As of 5 October 2026 · applies to the GymPlayer apps for Android and iOS from version 3.2, the browser player they contain and GymPlayer for Windows from version 3.3.1.
This is a translation. In case of any discrepancy, the German version (Datenschutzerklärung) prevails.

2. In short
GymPlayer collects, stores and transmits no personal data to us or to third parties. The app
- does not connect to our servers or anyone else's – no analytics or crash reporting, no advertising, no update check, no content loaded from the internet;
- has no accounts, no sign-in and no device identifiers;
- contains no third-party software components that could process data.
Everything the app processes stays on the device and – if you switch it on – within the local Wi-Fi. A video is only created when you tap "Save" yourself, and even then it stays on your device.
3. What is processed on the device
Camera pictures. The app takes pictures from the camera and keeps the last seconds in memory only, so that they can be frozen and scrubbed. They are overwritten continuously and discarded when the app closes.
Saved videos (since version 3.2). A video is only created when you tap the save icon on the frozen picture. The app then stores the chosen section as a video file on your device – on Android in the gallery (Movies/GymPlayer), on iOS in the photo library. The file is not sent to us or to anyone else. What happens to it afterwards is up to you and your device: if a cloud backup for photos and videos is switched on there (for example iCloud Photos or Google Photos), the device uploads the video like any other – GymPlayer has no influence on that. Without this tap the app saves no videos and no photos.
Settings. Your settings (buffer length, frame rate, memory limit, camera settings, the camera's Wi-Fi address) are stored locally on the device. They do not leave it and are excluded from cloud backups.
Crash log. If the app crashes, it writes a local text file with the technical error message, shows it once on the next start and then deletes it. It contains no pictures and is not transmitted.
4. Transmission within the local network
In CAMERA mode – and in CAM+PLAY mode when you switch on "Stream in Wi-Fi" (off by default) – the app offers the camera picture as a video stream on the local Wi-Fi so that a second device can show it.
Please note:
- The stream is unencrypted (HTTP) and requires no sign-in. Any device on the same Wi-Fi can retrieve the live picture, the last buffered seconds and the camera settings – and save the buffered seconds as a video on its own device.
- The stream does not leave the local network; the app makes no connection to the internet.
- Therefore only use the camera function on a Wi-Fi you trust – ideally the camera device's own hotspot or your club's network, not an open guest Wi-Fi.
The search function ("Search") only checks local addresses on your own Wi-Fi and the directly adjacent local address ranges for a camera stream; no data about you or your device is sent. "Choose Wi-Fi" only opens the system's Wi-Fi picker; the app does not read Wi-Fi names.
5. Permissions
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Camera | Filming in CAMERA and CAM+PLAY mode. |
| Local network (iOS) / network and Wi-Fi state (Android) | Finding the camera on the Wi-Fi, receiving or providing the stream. |
| Keep screen on (Android "wake lock") | The picture stays on during training; Wi-Fi power saving is off while streaming. |
| Add to photo library (iOS) / storage (Android 9 and older only) | Saving a video when you tap the save icon. The permission is requested on the first save and only allows adding – the app cannot read your existing photos and videos. Android 10 and later need no permission for this. |
The app does not request access to location, microphone, contacts or your existing photos, and does not run in the background.
6. Filming people
Whoever films other people with GymPlayer – a club, a coach, or gymnasts recording each other – is responsible for that recording themselves, all the more so when saving or sharing it. Inform the people being filmed and obtain consent where required; for minors, that of their parents or guardians. We as the provider of the app never receive the recordings.
7. Browser player
The camera serves a web page that lets other devices on the Wi-Fi watch the picture. This page runs entirely in the viewer's browser and stores only its own settings there (browser storage). If the viewer taps the save icon, their browser downloads the chosen section as a video file to their device. The page loads nothing from the internet.
8. GymPlayer for Windows
The Windows version is a single program that runs without installation. It too connects to no server on the internet and contains no analytics, advertising or crash reporting.
- Modes: like the apps, the Windows version (from 3.3.2) has PLAYER, CAMERA and CAM+PLAY. In PLAYER mode it receives the video stream of a phone on the same Wi-Fi. In CAMERA and CAM+PLAY mode it films with the PC's webcam; in CAMERA mode – and in CAM+PLAY mode when you switch on "Stream in Wi-Fi" (off by default) – it offers the picture on the local network as described in section 4: unencrypted, without sign-in, only within the local network. Without that switch, the stream in CAM+PLAY mode can only be reached on the PC itself.
- Pictures are kept in memory only, as in the apps, and overwritten continuously.
- Saving happens only when you save or export yourself – by default into the folder
Videos\GymPlayer(changeable in the settings). - Settings and log: the settings (
settings.json) and a log file with technical messages (log.txt, e.g. camera name, stream address, error messages) are stored on the PC in%LOCALAPPDATA%\GymPlayer. They are not transmitted; you can delete the folder at any time. - On first start Windows unpacks program libraries into a temporary folder of the user; it contains no personal data.
- Changing Wi-Fi: on request the program shows the Wi-Fi networks saved on the PC and the current one (through the Windows Wi-Fi interface) so that you can switch to the camera's network. The names are neither stored nor transmitted.
- The webcam is controlled by Windows: whether programs may use the camera is set under Settings → Privacy & security → Camera.
- Firewall: while the PC streams into the Wi-Fi, the program checks whether the Windows Firewall lets incoming connections through to GymPlayer. For this it reads the PC's firewall rules; none of this is stored or transmitted. The firewall is only changed when you click "Allow in firewall" yourself and confirm Windows' prompt – GymPlayer is then allowed for the kind of network the PC is in at that moment.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Since we hold no personal data about you, there is usually nothing we could provide or delete – but feel free to contact us at the address above with any questions. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority; the authority responsible for us is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).
10. Changes
If the app gains features that store or transmit data, we will update this policy. The date at the top shows the current version. Version 3.2 added saving videos on your own device; 3.3.1 added GymPlayer for Windows, 3.3.2 its camera modes.
